Have you ever read a really good book? Some might say that a romance novel or a sports book is the best. The really good books have an interesting setting, a various amount of characters, and a good plot.
It is important to have a good setting for every book. The book Starcross by Phillip Reeve does a great job of having an interesting setting. The setting is far in the future in the year 2156 in outer space. Since I will not be living that long. The author does a great job of making it seem real. There is an earth in the book, now the Europeans own almost all the land. It is spilt between the French and the German. The people are in an asteroid from Jupiter. They do not live on Jupiter but they live in a different asteroid belt. They can fly on ships from planet to planet. The setting really made me interested in this book.
Characters are in my option the most important part of a good story. There are many different characters in this book. It describes all of the them to make you feel like they are part of our world. The main characters were the Mumbsy family of Myrtle, Art and their mom. Art is the one who the story is actually about it is kind of like a journal that he writes. He and Myrtle never get along they always fight. Art is around 13 years old. He loves to explore and find new things. Myrtle is 16 years old. She thinks she controls every one and she always has to look good. She can’t be in public if she is not beautiful. Their mom is around 2,000 years old. She is a special type of person that cannot die. They also know this pirate that helps them survive in the asteroid. His name is Jack Havok. Jack is 16 years old and he is very brave and he likes to impress other people. The four characters I mention met in the first book of this series, which is called Larklight. Not all the characters in their world are good. There were two villains, with a group of hats called Moobs. There was always a problem for the good guys. The two people was Mr. Tifter the man who lured them into Starcross, and Mrs. Buedegard who was a French spy that tried to capture them and make them work for the French. The hats were a group of black slush that could transform themselves into any shape or form. They tried to suck the brain cells of people and by doing that they could control you.
The plot is what makes the stories interesting. In this story the Mumbsy family gets invited to go to a new hotel. At this new hotel they get attacked by a group of hats, which are called mobs. Through the story Myrtle and Jack escape from the hotel, then they go to a different asteroid so they could not be found. Later, they came back from their hiding spots and go and try to save Art and her Mom. The reason they wanted the Mumbys is because the mom could make you be able to transport your self to a different world.
This is a really good book. This book covers all of the required information. If you are interested in action type of books then this is the book for you. It is funny and full of action every chapter is leaves you hanging. Also it gives you a good laugh. I defiantly recommend this book. Starcross is one of the best books I have read.
