Have you ever read a good mystery book? Some people might say no but others might say yes. A Killing Freeze had a fantastic setting, wonderful characters, and interesting plot.
In A Killing Freeze the setting takes place in a small, snowy town in Minnesota. In this town they are have a huge snow festival and some horrible things go wrong. When I was reading this I could picture the cold weather that is very similar to Wyoming winter weather. When I closed my eyes I could see the huge snowdrifts piled along the road and every now and again a deer peeking out of the forest. Plus, at the festival I could see the ice sculptors at work, kids making snowmen, and dog sleds getting ready for the race they were participating in. I really felt like I was there.
There were lots of characters in the book. The main character was Claire. When I was reading this book I thought of her as a real person. Claire and her dad run a snowmobile and bike shop in their small town. Claire is an 18-year-old girl living alone with her dad after, her mother left them after she was born. She has a love for wilderness and that’s why I think her bond with her dad is so strong. When Claire discovers her murdered neighbor, she has to keep on going to help run the festival. Even with the horrible image she saw, she keeps strong and continues running the festival. I thought this would take a lot of courage to do and this really helped me decide my overall opinion of the book.
The plot was really intensifying. It all starts out when Claire goes home and finds that once again her dog Rover has ran off. She goes to check if he is at Mrs. Amling’s house (her neighbor) and discovers she has been murdered. Claire called the cops and, they arrive moments later. Days go on and, they finally find a prime suspect. His name is Richard Moline. Well, after a couple of hours of questioning the police let him go. The next day the town is starting the festival and someone discovers Richard Moline is in one of the ice sculpting blocks, dead. The town freaks out and everyone is looking for the murder. Later that week Claire discovered a secret photograph that was a clue to solving the crime, but when the murderer finds out, he/she comes after her. This is why the plot was exciting.
Now you know why this book has such awesome features with it. I mean with a great setting, wonderful characters, and an interesting plot this book was hard to put down. I recommend this book greatly because it was interesting and different from the average mystery book. I hope I have convinced you that this book will be worth your time.
