Whale Talk by Christopher Crutcher reviewed by Kirk D.

Have you ever read a book that inspires you? It could be how the author wrote the words or it could be the character inspired you. Books that inspire you in my opinion are the best books to read. They give you something to thing about. Whale Talk is a book that inspired me.

In Whale Talk the setting was mostly at The’s high school or the swimming pool where they practice. This book took place somewhere in 1980 to 1995 but I’m not completely sure when in those years. In Whale Talk you feel like you are the kid in his everyday life.

The main characters in Whale Talk are, The (which is his first name), his full name is The Tao(Dow) Jones and Chris. The story tells about The’s life. The is a very athletic high school student, but he doesn’t like competing and being told what to do, but his Senior year of high school he decides to joy the swim team. Chris is a mentally retarded high school student whose older brother was killed in an accident and his brother was amazing at sports. Chris is not liked by many students but, him and, The become good friends.

The plot of Whale Talk is mostly based around The and his life. The story first starts off giving you an idea of who The is and what his life is like. One of the important thing that happens is The gets people to go out for the swim team because Cutter High School has never had a swim team so The joins. The deals with many different people and problems as the book goes on.

If you enjoy anything with swimming or sports you would enjoy this book, this book inspired me.

  2. I thought this book seems like it would be a good book for me. It made me think about how to be a good person and treat people right. I could also relate to this book and the character because he plays sports and so do I.
