Saint by Ted Dekker review by Becca V.

Have you read a really good book lately? Some people will say that they don’t like to read and haven’t. Others might say they’ve read too many to count. I have. The book Saint, by Ted Dekker, is a great book because of its exciting setting, lively characters, and thrilling plot.

Ted Dekker really captures you into Saint set in the future date of 2033. You can see the streets of New York City, or the small town of Paradise, Colorado if you close your eyes. With the car chase along New York City streets and alleys, you can see the two yellow cabs racing, being thrown around by some mysterious force, and swerving to miss pedestrians. In the town of Paradise, the valley is clearer than ever in this book. With the houses and businesses lining the streets, Dekker makes you feel like you’re actually there.

Carl, also known as Johnny and Saint, is an assassin in training, and one of my favorite characters. He’s been lead to believe that his handler, Kelly, was his wife and they had a son named, Matthew. He’s been betrayed by the people he works for, and by the one he loves. Saint’s been through some tough times. Whether it’s affecting the temperature in his pit, or surviving in a box full of hornets after having a two thousand range and being chased down by another assassin who has a gun, he has only a knife. Ted Dekker really makes Saint come to life on the pages; he leads his readers to believe that he is real.

Englishman is Saint’s competitor, and my other favorite character. With the similar appearance of Jude Law, you’d never think someone like this would be an assassin. He may be the bad guy, but he’s one of the most exciting characters. He possesses a power, telekinesis. He tracks down Saint when he goes to Colorado, trying to get away from Englishman after failing to assassinate the president. Englishman thrives to kill, meaning he would go to any length to be successful in his assassination. Dekker makes his readers feel like Englishman is walking down their street the moment they read about him.

Saint has one of the most thrilling plots I’ve ever read. The car chases, fights, and violence just add to it. Saint has a mission to kill the Iranian Defense Minister, but his objectives get switched seconds before he makes the kill. But what do they get switched to? He now has to kill the President of the United States, Robert Stenton. But can he? Englishman’s objective is to kill Saint, but if Saint runs, it will only make it more difficult for Englishman. Does Englishman kill Saint? Does Saint kill the President? I know.

The book Saint, by Ted Dekker, is a great book because of it’s exciting setting, lively characters, and thrilling plot. Saint was one of the best books I’ve ever read. It’s one of my favorites. I totally recommend it to anyone. Even those who don’t like to read, because they may find that, with this book, they actually enjoy reading.
