Hugh Glass, Mountain Man by Robert M. McClung Review by Cameron B

Have you ever read a great book that you didn’t want to put down? Some might say no reading is boring or the Harry Potter books. Well I read Hugh Glass Mountain Man by Robert M. McClung I couldn’t put it down. I thought this book was great because of the setting, characters, and the plot.
The first great part about this book is the setting that took place. The whole book had a setting in the land of the trappers in the 1800’s. Things like rivers and open land was surrounding Hugh Glass and everyone else, along with Indians. The setting was nice because it could be so empty and then you would be amazed what could be there and how to use it. The setting was also a great part of the book because it seemed so relaxing just to have quiet every once in a while.
The second part I liked about the book is the characters. All of the characters seemed to be strong people, but they could change so fast. Hugh Glass was one of my favorites because he had so much drive and perseverance. He would not stop if he wanted to get something. I thought Hugh Glass was such a strong person so I admire him. Another one of the characters that interests me is Jim Bridger and Fitz. They taught me a lesson about never giving up on somebody and courage. In one part of the story they leave a fallen friend just to be safe from the closing in Indians. I thought Hugh Glass was such a strong person so I admire him. However Fitz and Jim seem good at first but soon made a mistake to haunt them for the rest of their lives, leaving a friend behind.
The third piece of the book that I liked was the plot. The book was about a trapper, Hugh Glass, going out with a group to the land to go and start trapping beavers. One day they were hunting and a bear had crept up on Hugh and mauled him. Everybody in the group with him thought he would be dead but he hung on to his life. Many days passed as Hugh barely breathed. Soon the leader said they should leave, but two people need to stay with Hugh. Those two people were Jim and Fitz. After days of watching and taking care of Hugh, Indian signs were spotted. In this country the Indians were deadly. So Fitz made the decision to leave Hugh and try to save there own lives. Hugh eventually gained enough strength to move and crawl. He started to crawl all the way to a fort to try to get his revenge on Fitz and Jim Bridger after leaving him for dead. But does he ever get to them?
The setting, characters, and plot were all great things about this book. I highly recommend this book it was very exciting. This book can also teach you a great lesson on courage and pride.
